Hiatus

Kacie Cross

I'm not dead, I'm just not posting lately.  Don't feel like posting comic lists and movie reviews, so all I have left to talk about is my story.  So... I'm on hiatus until I have something worthwhile to talk about.

Earthquake

Kacie Cross
Is it wrong that I think it's cool that there was an earthquake in the area last night?  Given I'm about 128 miles from the epicenter of the thing, but around 4:30 this morning when I felt my bed shaking, I was all like: "Ooh, was that an earthquake? That's cool!"

A Look at What's Coming out from DC in July, 2008
05:11pm April 14th, 2008

Kacie Cross
I know, two comic book posts in one week (don't get mad when there's a third one clogging your friends page).  This time I steal from a good buddy again and post what I'll be getting from DC's July solicitations.  As usual, things in bold are maybes (though it makes more sense to use italics)

TRINITY #5-9 (Just not sure I want to get into another weekly, though this is hard to resist, ask me after the first month if I want to read it)
FINAL CRISIS #3 (of 7)
FINAL CRISIS: REQUIEM #1
FINAL CRISIS: ROGUES’ REVENGE #1 (of 3)
AMBUSH BUG: YEAR NONE #1 (of 6)
TEEN TITANS #61 (Been thinking about putting this back on my list.  It seems to be getting better and I hate reading stuff in store)
BATMAN #679 (Only because of the Batman R.I.P storyline, no I didn't learn my lesson with Ressurection of Ra's Al Ghul)
SUPERMAN #678 (New writer equals another chance, though I find it hard to see myself keeping up with two Superman books)
BATGIRL #1 (of 6) (Very on the edge, need something to push me either way)
DETECTIVE COMICS #846
CATWOMAN #81 (FINAL ISSUE?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I hate you DC! Hate you forever!)
ACTION COMICS #867
BLUE BEETLE #29 (Matthew Sturges as the new writer? I like! I forgive you DC... sort of... but not really)
THE ALL-NEW ATOM #25 (FINAL ISSUE #2! Renewed hatred...)
BIRDS OF PREY #120
THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #15
BOOSTER GOLD #1,000,000
GREEN LANTERN #33
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #26
THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #44
JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA ANNUAL #1
MANHUNTER #32 (Everyone used to say this was good, it's back and I've never read it, should I? I'm in meh zone right now)
WONDER WOMAN #22
FABLES #75 ($4.99 issue... yes, it's a special number and all... sort of)
JACK OF FABLES #25 (On the fence, I've read two issues now and one has been good and the other just meh, time to jump on soon?)
HOUSE OF MYSTERY #3

Picked up the 2-Disc special edition of There Will Be Blood along with Portal for my PC today.  I see now why Portal was originally released as part of a package and am glad I only paid $10 for the game solo.  It is extremely short, still fun though.

Name Change

Kacie Cross
After 8-10 years using my Kumon_Ryuu name on Yahoo, I have completely abandoned it.  Christina (Nabiki/Yoiko) was the only one that still sent me messages on that name and so I decided it was time to move on.  I sent her a message and told her that I was going to be on Kacie_Cross full time.  It's always hard to get rid of old screen names for me, but it was just time to do it.  I now have one and only one screen name on Yahoo that I use and plan to keep it that way for quite a while.  Anyone that wants to talk to me on any messaging programs, try these:

Yahoo: kacie_cross
MSN: ryuu_kumon@hotmail.com
AIM: Arukei

Trailers: Mongol, Sex and the City, Son of Rambow

Foreign film, crap for idiots, and a British indie comedy... I must've gone to see and independent film and didn't realize it.  Mongol and Son of Rambow both look at least mildly entertaining.  They'll both be rentals.

Run, Fatboy, Run

I hope everyone realizes this is not an Edgar Wright film like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.  If you're expecting that you'll have a bad time.  This is more of a cute little romantic comedy.  Simon Pegg is still good in the lead role as you'd expect and for the most part everyone plays their parts well, but it's a different type of movie than Pegg is usually in.  Still a good story, not uproariously funny but still worth some chuckles and a good time.  Sad thing was there were only a total of 5 people in the audience including myself when I saw it.  Not a good sign.  My guess is people looking for a comedy this weekend are going to see Superhero Movie because they hate themselves and anything resembling a good movie.  7 / 10

Trailers: Kung-Fu Panda, Nim's Island, Speed Racer, Wall-E, Ice Age 3

Since I had my nephew with me, I'll relate what he has to say about each movie.   Basically he wants to see all of them and was actually excited about a part 3 to Ice Age.  Wall-E is my most anticipated off this list and one of the ones I want to see the most all summer.  The newest trailer made it look even more appealing.  Kevin I think wants to see Kung-Fu Panda the most as he gets very excited at the trailer.

Horton Hears a Who!

Yay, movies with exclamation points in the title.  We need more of that.  Surprisingly not bad kid's movie.  It is a kid's movie though and has the inexplicable pop music number near the end, but other wise there were a lack of pop culture references in it.  I'm glad they stuck to the story and did their best to make it funny rather than trying to make it relevant.  Thoroughly enjoyable movie that was worth sitting through.  I'd say it's worth at least a rental if you don't want to go see it in the theaters.  7.5 / 10

I can't tell if Southland Tales is brilliant or one of the worst movies ever made.  I do know that it's fucking insane and probably intentionally uninitentionally hilarious.  On top of that it has possibly the strangest cast EVER with so many people playing against type...

Time Away

Kacie Cross
Taking time away from all my chat programs for a few days... so no Yahoo, no MSN, no AIM, no IRC.  Since I find myself getting mad at some of the people I talk to on a constant basis, and I'm sick of other people being extremely mean to me, I think I need this break.  It also gives me time to catch up on reading and the backlog of TV watching.

So far, not being on IRC is the hardest as I'm always there when I'm on the computer.  I might break down and show up before I'm caught up on things, but I'm going to do my best not to.  Even if it means I'm feeling a little lonely as a result.

La Scala
01:11am March 17th, 2008

Kacie Cross

Apparently there is this new thing where some major theater chains are now showing operas from La Scala.  Now I know nothing about opera of course, but I still think this is a good idea.  I'm far more likely to watch something like that in a friendly theater setting rather than having to dress up and go out to see it.  This really makes me wonder about something else though...

Why don't they do the same thing with Broadway and Off-Broadway plays/musicals?  I'd love to see Wicked and due to demand for tickets and prices at the Fox Theatre, I just don't see myself ever getting to see it until they eventually decide to make a movie version.  I don't think it would have a significant impact on ticket sales for the actual musicals themselves either.  It could be run in limited engagements of a week, or even a single night, just something that would allow a wider audience to see these things.  My local theater runs opera, sporting events and concerts on their screens... I think it's time that it started running plays and musicals as well.
